Kate Liu - Bronze Medalist at the XVII International Chopin Competition

“Her Chopin set of waltzes, nocturnes, and mazurkas reflected an astute balance of passion and refinement that signaled her prizes at the 2015 17th International Chopin Competition were well-deserved.” March, 2023, The San Diego Story

The Chopin for All series is excited to conclude the 2022-23 concert season with the incomparable American pianist Kate Liu. Kate gained international acclaim after winning the Bronze Medal and Best Mazurka Prize at the XVII International Fryderyk Chopin Competition in Warsaw, Poland. She was also awarded the audience favorite prize as voted by the Polish public. “The Chopin Foundation has been following Kate Liu’s career since she participated in our Scholarship program in 2011,” said Barbara Muze, the Chopin Foundation’s Executive Director. “We were thrilled for her to win such an important prize in Warsaw, and have seen her develop into an important and compelling artist. She is not only adored here in the US but has a huge following worldwide.”

Born in Singapore, Kate began playing the piano when she was four years old and moved to the United States when she was eight. Early on in her career, she won 1st Prizes at the Third Asia-Pacific International Chopin Competition and the New York International Piano Competition. Kate is coming to South Florida for two special performances, including the music of Schumann and Chopin.
