A Historic American Triumph in Warsaw
A new chapter in American Chopin history has been written — one that began on our stage in Miami and reached its brilliant pinnacle in Warsaw. From the Chopin Foundation of the United States to the world, this moment is one we are proud to share with the world.

At the 2025 International Fryderyk Chopin Piano Competition, Eric Lu, First Prize Winner of the National Chopin Piano Competition in 2015, captured First Prize, becoming only the second American ever to receive this highest honor since Garrick Ohlsson’s legendary win in 1970. Eric’s story is one of continuity and devotion: his artistry first blossomed under the Foundation’s guidance, and this past April he returned to Miami for a performance at the CHOPIN Salons— a homecoming that now feels prophetic in light of his triumph.
Chopin Foundation Contestant
Joining him on the world stage was William Yang, our 2025 National Chopin Piano Competition First Prize Winner, whose expressive mastery earned Sixth Place in Warsaw. His success stands as a powerful testament to the Foundation’s enduring mission — to discover, support, and guide American pianists as they bring Chopin’s music to life on the world’s most prominent stages.
They were not alone. In total, five American pianists—each touched by the Foundation’s programs—rose to the challenge in this year’s International Competition: Eric Lu, William Yang, Victoria Wong, Antoni Kłeczek, and Anthony Ratinov. Their collective artistry was recognized by a world-wide audience. We congratulate Anthony Ratinov, Second Prize Winner of the 2025 National Competition, who played brilliantly for two rounds in Warsaw, affirming the strength and promise of our nation’s young pianists.
Together, these artists illuminate the purpose of the Chopin Foundation’s work. Through scholarships, national competitions, and concert opportunities, we invest in American pianists from their first auditions to moments like these — when their dedication and artistry resound on the world’s most revered stage.
We extend our heartfelt congratulations to all laureates and contestants of the 2025 International Chopin Piano Competition. Their commitment to Chopin’s legacy unites us across generations, nations, hearts, and minds.
